Sometimes Gardiner, and Faulkner don t have the hieroglyph you re looking for, that is when this volume comes into it s own but be warned try the others first as Budge is quite outdated as a generalization

Still a classic after all these years Well printed and clearly presented There are modern hieroglyphic dictionaries than this, and some say they are much better, but the one I purchased had no index You cannot use a dictionary like this without an index, so do be warned and don t waste your money.Happily, the index to this book is both comprehensive and accurate.

This publication was recommended by Egyptologists and I found it to be very helpful but the second corresponding volume is also required.

This is one of the very few books that is of importance to anyone learning egyptian hieroglyphs although not as strong as Gardiners Egyptian Grammar this book is still of importance, nowhere else have i seen a dictionary onm hieroglyphs that can rival this book this is a great book, and should be used with Gardiners Egyptian Grammar to gain the maximum out of learning hieroglyphics Make sure you buy the second part of this dictionary to complete it.

Students of the Ancient Egyptian Language should be aware that the study of the language and grammar have advanced considerably since Budge s day This volume may be of interest to the casual reader but better books are available.
