The applied theatre reader covers a wide range of applications of theatre practice across the world As a non academic though with a degree in theatre myself I found I had to cherry pick the readable and useful bits from the mass of impenetrable cultural studies theory, in which the most obscure ways of presenting some of the concepts made it heavier going than it needed to be If you are genuinely looking for an introduction to this field I would say this book is not for you Prison Theatre Ed James Thompson provides a sound introduction to a lot of the theory and practice, and the examples can be translated to non prison settings If you are looking for an book that supports research and need a crib to avoid reading several hundred pages of obscure theses then get this.
