I bought these as a beginner, to start learning kanji and have enjoyed using them Initially I could only use the kana cards, but I kept adding kanji cards to my selection whever I learned a new kanji symbol I really like having an illustration of the word written in kanji or kana I use the cards in either one of the following ways 1 looking at the Japanese writing, while hiding the picture and the meaning in English , and trying to recall the meaning2 looking at the picture, while hiding the Japanese writing and the meaning in English , and trying to recall the Japanese word.I haven t used the CD so I can t comment on that The sentences on the reverse side of the cards are definitely not for beginners unless you want to learn them like a parrot I am leaving them for later, when I am at a advanced stage On the whole, I can recommend these flashcards to beginners for learning kanji and increasing your vocabulary More advanced learners might find the sentences on the reverse useful.

I really like this product as they are bright and colourful and simple to use Bought these for an 8 year old and his progress has been great so far He really likes the poster Only downside I would say is they could be a little sturdy as they tend to bend.

I like the idea but the execution is crazy.First of all the japanese words, often long sentences appear on the CD before the English translation, so you re hearing meaningless sounds but by the time you find out what it was about, you ve no time to absorb it, or work out which words meant what because you re onto the next thing The examples are totally mental as well I m not joking things like saying my scissors are blue.

I purchased the Hirugana and katakana flash cards from the same collection and they were VERY helpful to memorize all the characters in the syllabaries on this at the end of the review So naturally, I was pretty enclined to buy those. The Flash cards for Kids collection is simply superb It s cute, kids friendly drawings makes it fun and easy to use.It comes with a CD ROM and a poster and the cards are quite thin but they don t rip easily Yay for glossy paper They re also pretty large for children to hold but the perfect size if you re a teacher and want to show to a small classroom. You have the romaji on the A face of the card the one with the drawing so if you want to learn the vocabulary and slowly memorize the real writing kanji included they are PERFECT Although I will eventually want to put small stickers to block the romaji section On face B, you have the word in japanese, romaji and english as well as sentences using that word so you can practice some Those are translated from japanese to romaji and english as well. What I really liked about this collection is how playful the cards are, without being childish and the color codes to represent sections were clever as well For example you have cards to learn father, mother, younger brother, older sister, etc with a blue stripe on top saying Kazoku family and it s written in japanese as well as romaji so it s even vocabulary and can help a little with the words.SHORT parenthesis about the syllabary flash cards from the same company On one side of the syllbary collection, you had the character, the correct stroke order in a corner and 6 words, expressions or sentences written with characters you re learning On the other side you have romaji, translations and sometimes tiny drawings to memorize the characters Do buy if you re interested in learning to write and read japanese

My son loves going through these cards and started learning his colors the same day we received them I like that they are thick and glossy and therefore sturdier than plain flashcards because he s really rough on them sometimes and we ve only had to repair minor tears on a couple of them I will definitely buy the advanced version once he s mastered these.
